A day in Provence ....

.... is just not long enough!

I think though I have discovered my first port of call when I win the lottery and I'm looking for a holiday home. We woke up to the most beautiful morning following the storm last night. Within a few minutes drive we were in the beautiful countryside. We passed fields of vines, lavender and Olive trees, the smell from the lavender filled the car as we passed. The villages were gorgeous and I wrote down a few (just so I know where to start when my numbers come up) in no particular order Vargues was beautiful, Quinson on a lake was just lovely. Tavernes too, I wrote down but to be honest I don't really remember it now - there were so many.

Lavender fields

We headed out for Saint-Maximin la Sainte Baume in search of Mary Magdalene's scull. We stopped for lunch at a picnic spot. The quiet was amazing shattered only by the odd car going up or down the hill.

Our lunch stop

When we finally arrived at Saint-Maximin it was market day and the streets were alive with noise and colour.

This was a saxophonist and a guitar player - this photo is poof that if you want a job done - do it yourself!

We did find the scull of Mary Magdalene,  it was in the Basilica. I took a photo of the alter and Andrew took one of the outside but I didn't take one of the scull itself, although there were no restrictions and I am not religious at all it just didn't seem right somehow. Instead we bought a book of photos

From the town we decided to go in search of a lake we had seen 'Lac de Sainte Croix' again a beautiful drive and I think that's when we went through Quinson. Eventually we saw the lake from way up.

We managed to get to the beach.

From the beach we headed up to a village we could see high above us, on foot now.

We stopped for afternoon tea!

For a long time now I have been tying to get a photo of a field of sunflowers. We have always come to France too late. This year though we should be in time but today we only saw a couple of fields and the flowers were already dropping their heads. I got a couple of shots though. Later we saw a couple of fields just up the road to us here and hopefully we can get some better shots in the morning.

Tomorrow we will head for Montpelier, only a short trip so hopefully some time to take in the Med.

Not sure I will have an internet connection for the next week or so. May be a while before I get back.
